What is in a Name?
Many years ago when my husband, Eric was a youth pastor, I had a group of girls from of youth ministry come over for a slumber party. Hours after the 6 girls arrived, the phone rang and the new was that a girl ,who used to attend our youth ministry had taken very ill and was not expected to make it through the night and asked if my husband would come.
Eric had been asleep for hours at this point but awoke easily, and headed to Baltimore to be with the Family.
At that point the fun gathering with the girls turned into a night of fasting and prayer for our sister. We prayed through the night that God would heal this young girl both physically and eternally.
When Eric returned in the middle of the night, he said it would indeed be a miracle if she came out alive and that the family would call if their were any changes.
The next morning we arose early to tend to our ill sister and to see if the family needed anything. When we arrived there were lots of family and only 2 at a time were aloud back to visit. We stayed in the waiting room praying and taking turns going back to pray with and for her.
She was in a coma and they said they were unsure if she could here anything, but when one of the girls and I went back and were talking to her, she was responded by squeezing our hand as tears fell from her eyes, which we took as a sign that God would indeed save this young girl.
Days passed and there were ups and downs and many surgeries for our friend, but God was faithful and restored health to our friend. Doctors said that at best she would be a vegetable and unable to talk or walk.
My next visit was such a testimony of God’s grace to his children. Eric and I walked into to her balloon and flower filled room to not find our friend. Minutes later, she walked in to greet us. I was astonished and astonished. I had not been able to get a hold of her mom for a week or so for an update. So this was truly amazing to me.
Amazing enough, she knew who I was and shared gratitude for all God had done for her.. It was an amazing day!!!
Now back to to name of Mustard Seed Sisters, that night of praying with the girls sparked a different level of faith amongst all of us. We were bonded by this experience and decided to continue to meet and spend time praying for each other as well as the needs of others. We asked God to do amazing things in the lives of each of us. This was a part of church I had never experienced before.
The intimacy that we shared as well as the love and care that God gave us for each other was incredible. This season in my life will forever remain in my heart and the love that God gave me for these girls and that time, gave me a refreshed idea of what the church of Christ should look like.
God eventually moved things around abit. Girls went of to college, Eric was no longer the youth pastor of the church and life went on, but the love and what I learned from these girls will be remembered always.
When we had started meeting, all agreed that we were the Mustard Seed Sisters, in that with the little faith that we had, that little spark of faith, God used to save a young girl and to increase our faith far more than we ever could have expected.
A couple of months ago a few of us were reunited and started to meet again. This blog is an extention of what God started many years ago.
May you be blessed and may God be ever glorified in the writings here. I am in hopes that soon you will meet Beth, our Associate Pastors wife as she has many stories of faith to share as well
Until the the next post, may Christ be the true treasure of your lives.
In His Grace,
Laura
