Happy Mothers Day, may this day lead you to the gospel!

Deuteronomy 6:4-10

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. [1] You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build,

What a great Mothers Day Verses. :)

Proverbs 17:  27 Whoever restrains his words has knowledge,
and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

Enjoy your family  and the Grace God has given us,

Laura

At the checkout of Walmart yesterday, I was greeted by the nicest cashier. She greeted me with a smile and laughed with me over trivial things as we engaged in conversation. I felt good that I talked with her and was able to make her smile, hoping and praying that somewhere down the road, a conversation of Christ might arise.

As I left, pride came in and I felt good about the way I conducted myself. Quickly, God brought these verses to mind and a time where I was not so gracious to a salesperson.

Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic [2] either. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31 And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

32 “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

Almost a year ago, I had bought a shirt for my husband for Fathers day at the outlets. I don’t have a chance to shop there very often, so it is always great when I can make it there. After Eric opened his gift, we found that the sales person had left the security tag on the item. This was upsetting, since I wanted Eric to be able to wear the shirt that day. I did not know what to do, so I called the store and the girl who answered said well you need to bring it back to the store, which would mean that it would cost me an hour of travel time.

I proceeded to ask if I could have a discount toward my next purchase and she no, that I should have noticed before I left the store that the tag was still on. At this point, my irritation turned to anger and I can say my response to her and my tone was anything but loving, kind and gracious. I was not loving my enemy.

Point of the story, is that how kind our God is to pull us from pride and remind us that while were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He sheds His mercies and grace on us even while our heart is deceatfully wicked above all things.  God showed me while it was nice to be kind to the kind cashier, that how much greater to be kind to those who may not be kind.

God still has alot of work to do with this child. I am thankful, I am not left to myself for this, but he so wonderfully supplied to Holy Spirit, which gives power to do what I cannot in my flesh.

On a side note, my wonderful husband  saw my irritation and went outside and sawed the plastic tag apart, thus problem fixed and my irritation was for nought :( .

Keep seeking Him,

Laura

I know, we have not started the book yet, but in light of Eric’s message and care group last night. I thought this quote from Love that Lasts .

  •  PRIDE
    • Pride loves to talk, reveling in every self-exhausting form of self expression
    • Pride assumes I already understand everything I need to.
    • Pride assumes I don’t need help.
    • Pride sinfully judges others by assuming they will respond negatively or unhelpfully if I am open.
    • Pride uses conversation as broadcast time.
    • Pride does not need a spouse just an audience.
    • Pride denies what the gospel reveals about our seriously sinful condition.

HUMILITY

  • Humility asks questions and love dialogue
  • Humility has never found someone it couldn’t learn something from
  • Humility assumes there is always more to learn about everything.
  • Humility assumes I need others.
  • Humility uses conversation with a spouse to explore new worlds.
  • Humility would rather be open and vulnerable than closed and independent.
  • Humility uses conversation with a spouse to explore new worlds.
  • Humility puts energy and effort into listening.
  • Humility treats a spouse as a fellow traveler on the road to biblical wisdom.
  • Humility that leads to intimacy takes and interest in one’s spouse as a gift from God.
  • Humility believes what what the gospel says about our desperate need for God and his grace -after we’re saved as well as before.

Need more be said. All day, I have realized how far I fall short. Thank you God for your grace and you abundant kindness and mercies to me. Help me to strive to true humility!!!!!

Laura

It has been a while since I have posted. Our family has had a run with the tummy bug :(

Last week on TV was Idol Gives Back where millions donated to relieve poverty in Africa and here in America.

While this is awesome and very needed, we as Christians and by God’s grace should seek to meet the needs of those who are in need here

The Church on Fire here in Easton has dedicated a large part of their church building to caring for the needy. They have rooms with free donated clothing as well as a food closet. It is open to anyone who is in need. It is a awesome ministry. We don’t want to re-invent the wheel when a church here is doing a great job. We would rather help assist them in building the kingdom in this way.

SO HERE IS THE CHALLENGE!!!

The next time you are at the store pick of a few extras that could help a needy family and either take it to the Church on Fire 7847 Ocean Gateway in Easton, Maryland or bring it to church on Sunday Morning and I will will take it  to them.

or

Now that it is getting warmer it is time to do the clothing switch. I know when I do this, there are always clothes I will never wear again or clothes that my children have outgrown.  Instead of throwing them out or taking them to the thrift or consignment shop. Bag them up and take them to Church on Fire or bring them to church.

There are so many ways we can love our community and this is one of those ways. So get into you closets and weed out those clothes you do not need. Not only will it help someone in need, it will make your drawers and closets so much neater :)

I leave you with this verse!

Deuteronomy 15:11 (Show me Deuteronomy 15)
For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’
